Friday November 28, 2014: Executive Committee Meeting
All Day: CityNet Executive Committee Meeting
The Executive Committee is the highest governing body of CityNet that meets once per year to give vision and strategy to the Secretariat. The closed session of the meeting is only open to Executive Committee Members. After 11am, the Session will open to all distinguished observers, advisors, and City Mayors.
Evening: Cocktail Reception and Welcome Dinner hosted by Seoul City
Seoul City invites all ExCom Members, CityNet Members, Vietnamese Guests, and International Partners to attend the Welcome Dinner for the 2014 Executive Committee Meeting and International Seminar. As the President City, Seoul is delighted to welcome you to this dynamic event!

Morning: Opening Forum
The opening forum, led by Secretary General Vijay Jagannathan, will showcase local Mayors, valuable partners, and technical experts who will speak on the future of sustainability and the most pressing issues that face municipalities in the Asia Pacific region. This forum will be an exciting time of dialogue between a number of our partners and members.
Session 1 and Session 2A: MS Public Sector Asia–Cities of the Future
Microsoft Public Sector Asia will lead a half day session on making our cities smarter, more efficient, and more resilient. Together with a set of solution partners, Microsoft aims to showcase the work of cities tackling urbanization challenges by transforming and connecting their cities with innovative technologies. Today, city leaders are constantly challenged by:
- The Ability to be sustainable
- Safety & security for their citizens
- City prosperity
- Health, Education and Job creation
- This session, brought to you by Microsoft and partners, aims to provide insights on how city leaders can leverage technology to overcome challenges of urbanizations through practices that have been implemented by their peers around the region / globe.
Parallel Session 2B: Green Technology Center – Korea –Green Technology
Green Technology Center – Korea will lead this session which focuses on implementing green technology in growing Asian cities and how we can meet both the economic and environmental needs of our cities through technology.
Parallel Session 3A: Green Cities in Asia
This session, chaired by a representative from the Asian Development Bank, will showcase Green City Initiatives in the Asia Pacific region. Speakers include Mayors, Climate Change experts, and regional representatives. During this session, speakers will share insight into the best practices in Green City project implementation and strategic design both regionally and globally. The purpose of the session is to deliver some varying perspectives on Green City concepts and design as well as collaborative engagement from attending delegates to discuss some of the challenges, opportunities, tools and solutions at a regional level.
Parallel Session 3B: Networking Session and Exhibition
Please join us for the exhibition in the Imperial Hotel Lobby! This unique networking session will allow CityNet members, partners, and Vietnamese participants to view the best practices of cities throughout the Asia Pacific region, the work of CityNet partners, and to discuss potential ideas for collaboration and cooperation.

Hue City, the host of the 2014 ExCom and International Seminar, invites you to share in a delicious Vietnamese meal to celebrate a successful seminar. Parallel Session 4A/5A: CDIA Urban Infrastructure Financing Options Seminar
This Seminar, modeled after CDIA’s Urban Infrastructure Financing Options Workshop, will be conducted in Vietnamese. Vietnamese participants are encouraged to attend to learn more about funding sources for urban infrastructure projects and how to make their projects attractive to financiers.
Parallel Session 4B: Korean Transport Institute –Sustainable Transportation
The Korean Transport Institute will lead a session to explore the transport challenges that our cities face and will continue to face in the coming years. Looking into the future, this session will propose ways that our member cities can learn from best practices and successful examples of sustainable transport.
Parallel Session 5B: Cluster Meeting
At this meeting, CityNet Clusters (Infrastructure, Disaster, MDG’s and Climate Change) will meet to share their plans for the upcoming year and potential areas of collaboration. Join this meeting to hear how your city can become more active within your cluster.
Parallel Session 5C: National Chapter Meeting
At this meeting CityNet’s five National Chapters (Nepal, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh) will meet to discuss their activities and vision for their National Chapters as well as potential areas of collaboration. Representatives from member cities in these countries are encouraged to attend and learn how to be more involved in your local National Chapter!
Lunch: Closing Lunch Hosted by Green Technology Center—Korea
The Green Technology Center Korea invites you to the last lunch of the three day event. Please join this lunch to say farewell to your new and old CityNet friends and family prior to experiencing the sites of the beautiful, historical, and culturally vibrant Hue City.
Afternoon: Site Visit 1-Thien Mu Pagoda
Thien Mu Pagoda is a historic temple in the city of Huế in Vietnam. Its pagoda has seven storeys and is the tallest building in Vietnam. The temple is often the subject of folk rhymes and ca dao about Huế, such is its iconic status and association with the city. It is regarded as the unofficial symbol of the former imperial capital. The pagoda sits on the Hà Khê hill on the northern bank of the Perfume River.
Afternoon Site Visit 2-Hue Citadel
The poetic and beautiful Hue of Vietnam was chosen to be the capital of the Southern Kingdom under Nguyen Lords’ Dynasty, and officially became the nation’s capital under Tay Son Dynasty, King Quang Trung. The citadel palace complex is located on the North bank of Huong River (Perfume River), inside Hue city. It is a huge complex covering an area of 520ha. It was said to be protected by the two sand dunes: The Con Hen and Con Da Vien on the Perfume River, as “dragon on the left, tiger on the right”.
